Regenerative Growing Practices
Regenerative agriculture is a farming method that aims to improve soil health and promote biodiversity. We take a holistic approach in our growing systems, always remaining mindful of the surrounding ecosystem.
Are we organic?
We follow all organic guidelines, but do not have an official certification. Here’s a more comprehensive look at our growing practices and philosophies:
Regenerative agriculture practices:
-
Source all organic seed, and source it locally
Source all mulch and any compost locally
Only use organic potting soil
Only use organic fertilizers
Only use organic pesticides
-
Absolutely no plastic is used in our field production
Absolutely no synthetic chemicals, fertilizers, or pesticides are used
-
We conserve water use on the farm by not irrigating field crops
-
Reduced tillage practices
Year round cover crop schemes to promote soil health and attract pollinators
-
Surplus harvest is donated to area food pantries and non-profits
All food is distributed within a 25 mile radius from the farm
-
We partner with apiarists to have local honey bees on the farm for pollination and to promote biodiversity
While we do spray, the only pesticides and fungicides we use are certified organic by the Organic Materials Research Institute (OMRI).
We employ Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies as a way to holistically control pest and disease in the market garden.
These practices include the use of natural mulches, proper crop rotation, cover cropping to attract beneficial insects, as well as the active use of protective insect netting and floating row cover.
